The health sector in the United States is diverse and is characterised by a mix of public and private funding and provision, as such, it is not governed by a single philosophy. In both the private and public sectors, medical services generally are regarded as high quality. First, we look at the various public programmes, and second the private programmes; thereafter we consider recent developments in US health care.
